The Bioscope is one of the largest and longest running Red Team Go businesses. Opened in June 2010 by Russell Grant and Darryl Els, The Bioscope is Johannesburg’s only truly independent cinema. Open every day of the week, The Bioscope is quickly becoming a household name for anyone looking for something different in the city. Screening mostly local and special event screenings, the content remains diverse with anything from live music, workshops and talks.
The true uniqueness of The Bioscope has come in the form of its themed monthly events like NoodleBox Cinema, whereby audiences get to watch interesting Asian content and eat noodles at the same time. Other favorites include special Valentines and Halloween screenings, as well as old retrospectives and cult classics.
The aim of the cinema is to increase the diversity of content on South African movie screens. In bringing new films to new audiences, The Bioscope is striving to grow new markets for new films, and are proud to be involved in developing local audiences for locally & internationally produced cinema. As well as play our part in developing Johannesburg’s quickly regenerating inner city.
All developments are being displayed right here in Red Team Go and www.thebioscope.co.za
The 68 seater cinema can be hired out for special events, private screenings, and presentations.
